Bluebonnet’s Buffered Vitamin C Crystals contain 4100 mg of pure, easy-to-mix crystalline calcium ascorbate per teaspoon.  Vitamin C helps tissue and bone grow and repair themselves. It can also help the body absorb the mineral iron. Vitamin C can also help protect against heart disease, prevent scurvy, and decrease total and LDL cholesterol and triglycerides.

Vitamins differ from macronutrients like carbohydrates, proteins and fats by virtue of the amount required. Typically, minuscule amounts are needed in comparison. Plus, vitamins are not used as an energy source. Instead, they are critical for the normal functioning, growth, repair and maintenance of cells and tissues and are required in individual units rather than long chains of smaller units. However, like carbohydrates, proteins and fats, vitamins are organic compounds, meaning that they are carbon-containing and are essential to one's overall well-being. In fact, a deficiency of just one vitamin can have a profound effect on the body and health.

Vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid) is a water-soluble, essential nutrient. Human beings are actually one of the few mammals that are unable to synthesize vitamin C, making it one of the essential nutrients that must be obtained from the diet. Vitamin C is involved in many complex functional roles in the body, such as neurotransmitter, collagen, carnitine and tyrosine synthesis and catabolism. In addition to its many functional roles, vitamin C is also a potent antioxidant, either by scavenging or neutralizing oxygen or nitrogen free radicals, protecting healthy cells in the body and lungs. Dietary sources that are high in vitamin C include orange juice, strawberries, oranges, fortified cereals and most citrus fruits.

As a dietary supplement, take one teaspoon (5 g) daily in juice or water or as directed by a healthcare practitioner.
